Rava idli can be best replacement for normal rice idli. Less calorie and healthy breakfast/Dinner replacement from usual recipe and I am sure kids would love it my little one said mumma this was awesome😃. You can use pinch of baking soda instead of eno fruit salt as we are doing for the kids to get soft and fluffy idlies. Batter should rest for minimum half an hour to get good results. Eating light foods for dinner helps in quick digestion. Even diabetes patients can take this idli instead of normal idli either for breakfast/dinner

Ingredients Needed
Rava/Suji/Semolina-1Cup*
Curd-3/4Cup
Water-1/2Cup
Cashews-10
Salt-as needed
Coriander leaves-finely chopped(for garnishing)
Baking soda-a pinch
To Temper
Oil-1tsp
Mustard seeds-1/4tsp
Urad dal-1/2tsp
Chana dal-1/2tsp
Jeera/cumin seeds-1/2tsp
Green chili-1(finely chopped)
Curry leaves-few
Hing-a pinch
Carrot-2-3tbsp(grated)
Peas-Handful
*1Cup-240ml
Preparation
- Heat the pan with a tsp of oil, once oil is hot add 1/4tsp Mustard seeds, when it splutters add 1/2tsp Urad dal & 1/2tsp Chana dal,1/2tsp Jeera/Cumin seeds, when dal turns golden color add 1finely chopped Green chili, Curry leaves & a pinch of Hing
- Add 2-3tbsp grated carrot to the pan
- Add a handful of green peas. Saute it for a minute
- Add 1Cup Rava/Suji/Semolina. Saute it in the medium flame until get nice aroma
- Add necessary salt to rava/suji/Semolina.Mix it well & switch off the flame
- Transfer it to the bowl & allow it to cool
- Once its cool add 3/4cup Curd & 1/2cup water
- Mix it well with whisker to form idli batter & rest it for minimum 1/2hour
- After 1/2hour add 1/4cup water if needed. Finally add finely chopped Coriander leaves & Mix it well
- Add a pinch of baking soda just before making idlies
- Heat the idli pot with little water. Brush idli plates with ghee, Place one Cashew on each cavity & pour batter on it. Place Idly plates on the pot & steam it for 10-12 minutes
- After 10-12 minutes take idlies carefully from the idli plates & serve hot with any chutney of your choice. We had with Tomato Thokku
Notes
- Adding Green peas give nice color for idli
- Eno fruit salt can be replaced with a pinch of baking soda. Add baking soda or eno just right before making idlies else batter will get sour
