Ingredients needed
Tomato-4 medium size
Red chili powder-1 tsp
Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
Salt -as needed
To Temper
Sesame oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds/Methi seeds - 1/4 tsp
Hing - a generous pinch
Curry leaves - few
Preparation
- Cut the tomatoes roughly and put it in the blender with red chili powder and salt and blend it well to paste without any chunks
- Heat the pan with 1 tbsp of sesame oil, add mustard seeds, methi seeds, curry leaves and hing
- When mustard seeds starts to splutter add Tomato puree to it and allow it to boil in medium flame. Open and stir in between to avoid getting burnt. Reduce the flame to low when you open for stirring
- Allow it to boil well until all the small bubbles goes off. Switch off the flame when oil oozes out
- Serve it with either idly or dosa. Goes well with even curd rice
- If your tomatoes are not sour enough add little tamarind to it when you make tomato puree
- I have used Kashmir red chili powder which gave me good red color and less spiciness if you are using normal red chili powder then reduce the quantity of red chili powder according to your taste
- Use sesame oil for good results. If you don't have sesame oil go with vegetable oil
